The many uses of ように

I'm trying to learn all the different forms of ように. So I'll list the different uses and make example sentences.

Vる /  Vない --> よう に する

This grammar point is about showing a habit or intention/effort is the sense of "to try to V"

週に4回ジムに行くようにします。
I try to go to the gym four times a week.
This sentence show that I make an effort to go to the gym 4 times a week.

Vよう -->  と する

This grammar is also about effort, but not in the same way as よう に する. Vようとする is about trying to do something (now) and the outcome is not releated to the effort. This is often used to express that you tried to do something, but it didn't work out.
メッセージを送ようとしてスマートフォンが消えました
I tried to send a message, but my phone turned off.

Vる(non-volitional) /  Vない / Vpotential-->  ように。。。

This grammar point can be seen as "in order to X" or "just in case, do X". The difference here to the other points is that it is used with verbs that are non-volitional verbs linked to weather conditions, psychological sensations, sudden changes, capabilities and potential form. Some common non-volitional verbs are  できる、わかる、あく、閉じる、決める、ある、いる、治る(なおる).

日本語を分かるようにブロッグを書きます。
I write a blog so I can understand Japanese.
(In order to understand Japanese, I write a blog)

雨が降られないように傘を使うつもりです

(In order to not get rained on, I plan to use an umbrella)

Vよう -->  と しない

This one is linked to the previous grammar point. Only this one is negative and indicates that someone does not do something(anything) at the given moment.
私の婚約者は洗おうとしない
My fience never does the laundry
(at this given moment and forward)

Vる /  Vない --> よう に なる

This grammar point is focusing on change. "It will be x", "to become x" compared to what it was not before.

一年前漢字読まなかったけど今読むようになりました。
A year a ago I couldn't read kanji, but now I can read it.
In this sentence the focus is that i now am able to read kanji which i could not a year ago.

Vよう -->  と 思う

This grammar point show one's will or plan to do something in the form of "I am thinking about doing X". This is not as strong as the first grammar point Vる /  Vない --> よう に する and it's more of a "one time thing" and not a habit.

今年電気自動車を買おうと思う
I think I'll buy an electric car this year

It is often used in 思っている-form
私の古いな車を売ろうと思っています
I'm thinking about selling my old car
(I'm planning to sell my old car)

Now we have 3 grammar points that end in ~ように

N の/ V --> ように
This grammar point is used to offer explanation about a verb og noun.
It's a more polite form of こと.

私は病気のように明日のノルウェーの語クラスは延期します
As I am sick (explanation) tomorrow's Norwegian class will be posponed.

Vる / Vない --> ように
This grammar point is used to indicate a request.
教室に大きな声をしないように

ます / ません /れませ --> ように
This grammar point is used to indicate a hope.

(I really do!)
