I'm trying to learn all the different forms of ように. So I'll list the different uses and make example sentences. Vる / Vない --> よう に する This grammar point is about showing a habit or intention/effort is the sense of "to try to V" 週に4回ジムに行くようにします。 I try to go to the gym four times a week. This sentence show that I make an effort to go to the gym 4 times a week. Vよう --> と する This grammar is also about effort, but not in the same way as よう に する. Vようとする is about trying to do something (now) and the outcome is not releated to the effort. This is often used to express that you tried to do something, but it didn't work out. メッセージを送ようとしてスマートフォンが消えました I tried to send a message, but my phone turned off. Vる(non-volitional) / Vない / Vpotential--> ように。。。 This grammar point can be seen as "in order to X" or "just in case, do X".
